AS a Swindon councillor I was glad to hear about the new Conservative proposals to end Gordon Brown’s unpopular and damaging policies of bin cuts, bin fines and bin taxes.
I know that there has been concern locally about weekly bin collections, and have raised the issue with Robert Buckland, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon. Robert tells me that the next Conservative government will change Whitehall policy so that central funding will be offered to all councils, allowing them to have full weekly collections on top of a comprehensive recycling service.
This will be funded by scrapping a host of unelected quangos and local government red tape. Gordon Brown’s plans for new bin taxes will also be scrapped.
New powers will be given to councils, allowing them to cut local council tax bills in return for recycling and green behaviour. Instead of a centralizing Labour Government telling us what to do all the time, we will have a Conservative government that trusts us to make the best choices for Swindon.
