AT the April full council meeting a member of the Labour Group urged the Conservative administration on Swindon Council to apply to host one of the 20 Central Government Enterprise Zones to be established in the town.
As I understand it, Enterprise Zones offer for that area: a business discount rate worth up to £275,000 over five years for firms that move into the area, a simplified planning process and “superfast” broadband.
Regardless of whether this policy is good for the whole country, hosting an Enterprise Zone in Swindon can only be good for the town and will attract more businesses and jobs to the area.
I am pleased to hear that the Conservative administration has supported the Labour Group’s call to bid for an Enterprise Zone in the town. The Conservative administration in Swindon have made much of the fact that they can influence the Conservative-led government’s decisions and policies, if they fail to attract a Government Enterprise Zone to the town, we will know this is nothing but spin.
