MATT WHITTAKER, manager of Pets At Home Swindon, writes this week about taking your pet on holiday...

LEAVING your pet at home with a friend or relative while you jet away for some sun, sea and sand is never fun. But if you fancy taking your pet on holiday with you, there are plenty of options.

Throughout the year our VIP Magazine, available in store, is packed full of tips and tricks to ensure you do the right thing by your pet in the warmer months and on holiday. From the best walks to take to how to have fun on the beach, the magazine will keep you stocked up on great, safe ideas for your holiday.

Booking an appointment with your vet is also very important before you jet off. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to getting the correct vaccinations and tick treatments.

The team at Pets at Home can also ensure that your pet is fully microchipped before you take them away with you.

It’s also really handy to have a collar with your own name and contact details, just in case the worst should happen and you become separated from your furry friend.

Got your passport packed and ready to go? Think again and make sure your pet has their own valid pet passport.

Checking the government website before you go is also very important: www.gov.uk/take-pet-abroad

However, before you consider taking your pet abroad, you should take the time to consider whether the change in routine and travel will be too stressful for your pet.

It could be best leaving them at home with a family member, trusted friend, pet sitters or a fully-licensed kennel or cattery. Our store team are always available to answer any of your questions, so feel free to pop in and have a chat.
