I won’t lie. Prior to writing this I had no real idea of what indie-rock is. My musical tastes are catholic but somewhat time-lagged being as how I’ve not much moved on from the 90s.

For the benefit of anyone else out there as ignorant as me Wikipedia has this to say: “Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include indie pop, jangle pop, C86, and lo-fi, among others.

"Originally used to describe record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock.

"As grunge and punk revival bands in the US, and then Britpop bands in the UK, broke into the mainstream in the 1990s, it came to be used to identify those acts that retained an outsider and underground perspective.

"In the 2000s, as a result of changes in the music industry and the growing importance of the Internet, a number of indie rock acts began to enjoy commercial success, leading to questions about its meaningfulness as a term.”

Anyway, whatever the ins and outs of that and to get to the point, there is a band in Swindon of this genre who, we fervently hope, have exciting times in store.  I am speaking of  ’Talk in Code’ Wiltshire’s very own anthemic-indie rock pioneers  who have recently signed a deal with DO IT! Records.  The self-titled debut album is planned for release during March and the first single ‘Make It Happen’ was launched on Feb 7th.  If you like artists such as The Killers, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, and The Temper Trap….you’ll LOVE Talk In Code.

The band have a number of live dates coming up, notably several in and around Swindon plus a tour on the way in the spring.  Get regular updates on their Facebook page and/or check out their website where you will, as it says, “… find all things Talk In Code – Gig dates, insight, single release and even some interesting little nuggets that you ardent fans may wish to go looking for ;) … Top story today is that Talk In Code have signed a licensing deal with DOIT! Records (part of the DO IT! Management Ltd group) to release our debut album in the spring of 2014.  They are a well established independent outfit so it’s an exciting time for the band and fans alike!!”

For those of you active in the Twittersphere you can follow them on: @talkincodeband and for those would-be ardent fans the group members are as follows:

Here's a link to the official video of their new single. Yesterday (8th February) they had a spot at the central library for National Libraries day. There's a few snaps of them in action there on this blog post.
