SATURDAY'S defeat at Notts County ended Town's season as a competitive concern but, overall, I would class the campaign as a success.

After Kevin MacDonald left the club last July, Town found themselves without a permanent boss throughout pre-season and the first four games of the season.

But despite the club taking five weeks to appoint a manager, they built up a decent squad, which included new faces like Alex Pritchard, Ryan Mason, Nile Ranger and Ryan Harley.

Before the season kicked off many pundits predicted a painful campaign for Town, as they looked rudderless at the top, with a squad full of loanees and unproven players.

But as the season got underway, it was plain to see that the squad put together by the chairman Jed McCrory and Director of Football Lee Power was a good one, that shouldn’t be anywhere near the bottom four.

And over the entire season that’s proven to be the case, Mark Cooper’s side never dropped outside the top half of the table, and has always been in and around the playoff picture.

But sadly when the club entered a key spell in the season, they buckled under the pressure, which resulted in 1 victory in 11 games throughout February and March, and put an end to Town’s chances of a place in the top six.

The signing of Jack Stephens on loan and the reemergence of Troy Archibald-Henville had a big different in Town’s last dozen games but they entered the fold to late to help Cooper’s side into the playoffs.

Player of the Season

Alex Pritchard

GOALKEEPER Wes Foderingham, has once again proved he’s one of the best keepers in the Football League, Nathan Thompson has been solid at the back and impressive going forward, and despite his short time at Town, Jack Stephens has been superb.

But the most consistent performer by some distant has been Alex Pritchard. He is an obvious choice but that’s because of his ability to change a game all by himself, defenders hate playing against him with his pace and ability with the ball at his feet, he’s been our stand out player, and its been painfully obvious when he’s absent from the team, a real star for the future.

Young Player of the Season

Louis Thompson

JUST like his older brother Nathan, Louis Thompson made his way up the Swindon youth system and this past season he’s come of age in the Town first team, after being used sparingly in the first half of the season, Louis has made amazing strides forward in 2014.

From January to March the central midfielder made 9 first team starts in a row and looked settled into his role, I can see him making a bigger contribution next season alongside his brother, if Town can keep the admirers at bay.

Most Improved

Raphael Rossi Branco

AFTER a poor debut in a Johnstones Paint Trophy last October, Raphael started to make an impact on the first team over the busy Christmas schedule and has played a part in the first team ever since.

With this being his first season playing in the football league he’s done a great job in settling in after a shaky start, hopefully the club will put a contract for next season in front of him soon.

Most Underwhelming

Dany N’Guessan

SOME eyebrows might be raised at this choice but let me explain, Dany N’Guessan seemed to give up as soon as 2014 arrived. In the first half of the season Dany scored 8 goals in 18 games, a good return in League One.

But that last goal came in November last year, and he hasn’t scored in his last 16 appearances for the club, when he wants to play he looks decent, but after his first half showing against Wolves in March, I doubt we’ll ever see him in a Town shirt again.
