EVERY week that goes by, it looks less and less likely that Massimo Luongo will be a Swindon player when the January transfer window slams shut.

With the news that Town turned down enquiries from Norwich and Brentford because of interest from Premier League clubs, I hope that chairman Lee Power can at least get a decent amount of money for the midfielder.

Over the years we seem to have developed a knack of underselling our star names.

When you see Swindon receive around £1.5m for Charlie Austin and the same amount for Simon Cox, it makes you wince when you see Peterborough earn £13.5m for both Dwight Gayle and Britt Assombalonga.

With interest in Wes Foderingham, Nathan Thompson and Michael Smith over the summer, we could see more than one departure in January.

However, a huge amount of praise needs to be directed towards Power and manager Mark Cooper for their work in the transfer window.

With Swindon’s budget now in the bottom eight of the division, how the club worked in the loan market over the summer would turn out to be crucial.

Thankfully the signs are good on the new players. Smith has improved over time and is starting to play a key role, and Josh Turnbull has made an instant impact at the heart of the defence.

The most surprising signing of the window was the arrival of striker Jonathan Obika from Spurs.

The general consensus seemed to be a negative one, due to his poor loan spell at the club three years ago.

But normally when you buy a 23-year-old striker who has played for a number of Championship clubs, scoring 25 goals in 69 starts and 66 substitute appearances, you pay more than £200,000.

In the long term this will turn out to be another good piece of business done by Power.

Lastly, I wanted to mention the passing of long-time Town fan Gerald Woodvine.

As a season ticket holder for 56 years, Gerald was an instantly recognisable character at both home and away games, and will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

For many including myself, he simply was Mr Swindon Town.
