After a rare away defeat last Saturday, Town got back to winning ways this week with an important win over 2nd place Preston North End.

It was an evening that required patience from the Town faithful, but they were rewarded when with 5 minutes left super sub Andy Williams scored his sixth goal from the bench this season.

But with Williams scoring on a regular basis this season from the bench, surely his form deserves a place in the starting eleven this Saturday?

I would personally put him straight in the team, Smith and Obika have done well together but they are too similar, Williams’ pace against a League Two defence is a must for this Saturday.

Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat last weekend, most of the talk after the game wasn’t about the performance on the pitch, but the comments made off it by Wes Foderingham.

With Foderingham’s contract coming to an end next summer he was asked whether he would sign a new deal.

“I’ve always said I’d like to try and play at the highest level possible so if we get promoted, then that’s another level up. So we’ll look at it if that happens.”

If you a fan of any club outside the top flight, you will expect to lose your best players, it’s just the nature of the beast.

But the way Foderingham worded his answer felt a bit like he was patting Town on the head, and saying that he’s done his quota of League One football.

I understand he has to do what’s best for him and his career, and when he does move on, I’ll wish him all the best.

But he has to remember that Town gave him his break in the football league, and took a chance on a young inexperienced keeper in 2011.

Foderingham went onto say “It’s a club that is close to my heart now and always will be”

With that in mind, hopefully he will sign a new deal before the end of the year, and doesn’t leave it till the summer; otherwise he could leave the club on a free transfer, and potentially cost the club millions of pounds.

Which could potentially leave Town in an awkward situation of possibly having to sell him in January to receive any fee for the young keeper.

This weekend Town can forget about life in League One, as they enter the World’s oldest cup competition, the F.A Cup.

In the clubs 135-year history, Town has never won the competition, but have been semi-finalists twice in 1910 and 1912, and quarter-finalists in 1911, 1924, and most recently in 1970.

On the 23rd October 1886, Swindon Town welcomed Watford to The Croft for the clubs first ever F.A Cup tie.

Town won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Welsh inside left Dick Jones.

Fast-forward 128 years and Town enters the famous Cup competition for the 117th time as they travel to Gloucestershire to face League Two side Cheltenham Town.

After two years of underachievement in the famous cup competition, the club desperately needs a decent run to help boost finances after falling short in the other two cups this season, and with home attendances still being below what we saw last season.

Big games and famous upsets in the F.A Cup are the memories that always stay with you, no Town fan will forget the clubs last big upset, when Paolo Di Canio’s Swindon beat then Premier League side Wigan at a packed out Country Ground.

Let’s hope Mark Cooper’s side can create a headline moment, starting with a win at Whaddon Road this Saturday.
