When the current campaign kicked off, I doubt any Town fan would have predicted Mark Cooper’s side would be securing a playoff place in League One with five games left to play.

But now with the playoffs secure, the idea of second place is still lucking in the background.

Town responded in the perfect fashion this week to their broadcast humiliation over the Easter weekend.

Despite the fact last Saturday’s victory over Peterborough won’t live long in the memory for Town fans, it was a proud day for Jermaine Hylton who scored his first goal in the professional game.

Since his arrival, Jermaine has found himself mostly on the bench, but after replacing Andy Williams he made an instant impact with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner in front of the Town End.

With all three of Town’s main strikers taking a dip in form over the last couple of months, Jermaine possibly deserves a start in upcoming games, it will be interesting to see how he copes from the start if he is given that chance.

Onto Tuesday where a Ben Gladwin inspired Swindon comfortably beat Rochdale at Spotland.

With Town taking maximum points from their last two league games and 2nd placed Preston dropping four in their last two games, it does give a little hope to our top two ambitions.

Just as we started to wave goodbye to the idea of automatic promotion, a small glimmer of hope starts to appear on Tuesday evening.

It would still take many results going in Town’s favour and Mark Cooper’s side winning all five games left in the regular season, which includes a trip to Deepdale to face Preston.

But after already being surprised this season with our successful playoff campaign, maybe this memorable season has one more shocking twist yet to be unveiled.

This weekend Town welcomes back former manager Paul Sturrock to the County Ground with his already relegated Yeovil Town side.

Having family members who are Yeovil Town supporters I was disappointed to see them relegated last weekend, and with the added humiliation of consecutive relegations, something Town fans can unfortunately relate to.

Despite Yeovil already knowing their fate for next season, that won’t make this Saturday’s game any easier, as was proven on Tuesday night as Sturrock’s side beat potential playoff semi-final opponents Sheffield United.

After witnessing a poor turnout last weekend I implore any fans that are sitting on the fence on whether to come along on Saturday to make a trip back to the County Ground.

The season is far from over, and with the game a must-win fixture for Swindon Town, it promises to be something you don’t want to miss.
