Another great team performance helped town to stay firmly inside the playoff spots in league one last weekend.
After a dodgy first half display we were lucky to go into the half time break 1-0 up but thanks to Charlie Austin, we did.
There have been reports that Ipswich and Notts Forest are interested in Austin after watching him score every time he puts on a Swindon Town shirt. I'm hopeful he will see sense and stay at Town for at least the rest of this and next season at least.
Tuesday night was a sign of how much we have grown as a team this season. Going and playing on a awful pitch was always going to be tough but we battled and earned ourselves a good away win. That result puts us into a fantastic position in the league as we find ourselves with a five point cushion in the playoffs. With the way we are playing there is no reason why we can’t continue this form into the rest of the season.
Looking ahead into the very busy fixture schedule it looks like March will be where the season will be decided with 4 of the 6 games away from home. We also have 2 home games against Bristol Rovers and Norwich so it will be a difficult month. With Danny Wilson looking to add more depth into the squad and players staying injury free it could turn out to be the month we start to think about success at Wembley in May.
We have one of the biggest games of the season and a fantastic game to look forward to on Tuesday night. Hopefully we can get a packed County Ground to cheer the team on as we have seen in the recent weeks how Leeds can be vulnerable. They haven’t won in their last three including a defeat away to Exeter last weekend, so this shows we can take something from this game.
The biggest selection headache will be replacing Alan Sheenan at left back with Jean Francois. Lescinel hasn’t played to his best ability consistently so far this season and that could be were Leeds focus there attack. Let’s hope Gordon Greer doesn’t have to play 2 positions on Tuesday night and Jean Francois can repay the faith shown in him by Danny Wilson and play his best game for Swindon.
We all know Leeds can be a very good team ask any Manchester United fan that. They can be dangerous especially with Jermaine Beckford looking to add to his 16 league goals this season. If we make sure that we don’t let the big occasion get to us I have every confidence we can add 3 more points to are league total and our push towards the playoffs.
