Don't hit the panic button

NEVER before have the words of Lance Corporal Jack Jones been more appropriate than the last week.

Don’t Panic! Don’t Panic! is the message that we all need to take with us into the next few games.

Last Saturday was a dire game for all Town fans but we need to just take it on the chin and move on quickly.

With Town playing two games a week for a couple of months, the players will need to block out the last two results and just start playing again like we all know they can.

The Rovers game was just a lack of concentration at key points which cost us dearly but hopefully we will have the last laugh when we finish in the play-offs and Rovers settle for midtable.

Tuesday night’s game was a little different from the Rovers game in that we played better, but again we weren’t fully switched on and it showed when they took an early lead.

I’m not 100 per cent sure why Danny Wilson needed to drop Gordon Greer to the bench for such a big game in the season.

In all games you need your leader on the pitch and that’s what was missing in the first half.

I can understand Charlie Austin being dropped to the bench because of his fitness, coming from non-league football to league football is obviously a big step up fitness-wise and he has played a lot of football since joining Town.

He needs a good pre-season behind him before he can get his fitness fully sorted.

I think I join a big number of Town fans when I say I’m not convinced by Vincent Pericard just yet.

I know he hasn’t been at the club long and has only started the one game, but he doesn’t seem quite match fit.

Things must improve from what we have seen so far or he will have no chance in breaking up Billy Paynter and Austin.

Today we go the stadium where six years ago our dream of a play-off final with Bristol City was smashed against the post.

We need to make sure we get our play-off ambitions back on track as Brighton have been playing better recently and have picked up good results against our promotion rivals Leeds, Charlton and Colchester.

It’s important we try and keep possession of the ball in midfield and use Danny Ward’s pace in attack.

Also, starting with Greer and Austin in the team means we should come away with another victory.
