My last blog had somewhat of a serious tone halfway through it. I never meant to bring anybody down with it. If anything my intention was to put a positive spin on a sad time.
Something I’m afraid I cannot do in this week’s blog as I’m sad to say I’ve got some terrible news about someone else close to my heart. Someone I lost this week.
The guy in question was a dear, dear friend of mine who, although coming in and out of my life since the age of around 14, I became so attached to during recent times. We became almost inseparable.
It’s tough for me to talk about to be honest, and I don’t really know why I’m telling the internet, but I feel I need to. Maybe it’s for cathartic reasons. Maybe I feel no one in my life will fully understand. I don’t know.
You see, no one really knew my mate as well as I did. They’d seen him around, sure, but no one really took the time to get to know him.
I think that’s why I did. He didn’t really fit in - and we certainly looked odd together! - but that drew me to him. His peculiar looks and quiet demeanour made me connect with him.
The last few weeks there wasn’t a day that I didn’t see him, even if for just a minute. And despite not really having any family or friends himself, he was always there for me. Ready to cheer me up by pulling silly faces, tickling me when I was blue and in some cases even giving me food when I thought I was all out.
It breaks my heart thinking about how soon he’s been taken from us. It kills me that despite being so near to me for so long, I never fully embraced his friendship until it was too late.
He was a remarkable individual and one I will never forget.
RIP moustache. I hope to see you next Movember.
