The parliamentary researcher to both Swindon MPs Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson will be a guest at the Swindon Mindful Employer Network event at the Swindon Marriott on 4th April.
Chris Van Roon will be joining Swindon Advertiser editor Dave King and mental health campaigner Jonathan Naess of Stand to Reason discussing the issues relating to the stigma and fear of mental illness. Chris acknowledges he has suffered from periods of mental illness and this did not stop him from being hired by the MPs to support their important work at Westminster.
Chris says: “I was delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Robert and Justin and although my work is challenging, the reality is that people who have suffered from periods of poor mental health are still able to be capable, professional and hard working employees.”
Swindon South MP, Robert Buckland says: “Chris is an extremely valuable member of our team. Quite simply, I believe employers need to take a positive stance on mental health issues and reduce prejudices and misconceptions in the workplace.”
Swindon North MP, Justin Tomlinson says: “I am pleased Chris will be a guest at the Swindon Mindful Employer Network conference – we fully support the work of this network and the team at Richmond Fellowship Wiltshire which manage this important initiative. We urge employers of all sectors and sizes to get involved.”
The conference keynote speaker will be Professor Dame Carol Black who is the National Director for Health and Work with a keynote presentation by Professor Ivan Robertson an expert in organisational psychology. Joining them will be Giles Miskin of The Colour Works and Gavin Jones, Chief Executive of the Swindon Borough Council
