Now we are seven weeks into the Di Canio revolution at Swindon Town what’s your first impression?
Joe Devera, Jonathan Smith, Alberto Comazzi, Raffaele De Vita, Mattia Lanzano, Ibrahim Atiku and Oliver Risser are the players that have signed up permanently.
With others coming and going on trial, Alessandro Cibocchi, Etienne Esajas, and Christian Paoletti are some of the names trying to make a big impression and be part of Di Canio’s team.
Its great to see new faces coming into the team to freshen things up around the club, the biggest problem last season was a lack of passion and seeing some of the older faces moving on might not be a bad thing if they had lost there drive for the club.
My only concern so far would be the lack of players who have played in English football before, out of the seven players who have signed up only one has Football League experience.
But with four weeks to go till the Crewe game I’m confident we will see some more recognizable faces from the Football League join the club, and as we’ve seen recently with the clubs failed attempt at signing Adam Birchall, its not through lack of trying.
With the season drawing nearer the club announced last week that season ticket sales for the coming season have broken the 4.500 mark, which is a brilliant feat for a club playing its football in League Two for a year.
But with that good news also came some bad news this week, Jeremy Wray announced on Monday that matchday ticket prices would be increased for the coming season.
I fully understand that season ticket prices have stayed at a great price and as a season ticket holder myself that’s great news, but for the other fans who can’t make 20+ games a season and away fans it might be a price they aren’t willing to pay.
If you buy a ticket on the day to sit in the Town End it will cost you £19 and to sit in either the Arkells Stand or Don Rogers Stand its £25.
Attracting new fans is essential to the running of a football club and personally I think these prices will do more harm than good over the next year, I hope the clubs board will see sense soon and make changes to the inflated ticket prices.
