School's out for summer!

Photograph of the Author By Mum's The Word »

All six little cherubs broke up from school yesterday. It was quite an emotional day, because my eldest son left primary school and my youngest left preschool. Alfie will start big school in September and Callum will start Secondary. Arrgghh! Where does the time go?

I have started the holiday feeling rather jolly and positive (wait until next week; I will be a nervous gibbering wreck by then!) I am determined that we will all have a fun summer together, despite being low on funds. There are so many things we can do for free. We are really lucky to have both Queens Park and Lawns Woods very close by. Fingers x on the weather! We also have a huge paddling pool and a massive arts and crafts collection, as well as a whole stack of games.

I thought that I would start the holiday as I mean to go on and have laid down a few ground rules. So this is what I have pinned on my hallway wall:

Mum’s Summer Rules for All Cubs and Visiting Play Mates

  • Mum wants you to stay safe, so no running in the house.
  • Ask before you borrow something that does not belong to you.
  • Treat the house and your things with respect.
  • If Mum or Dad want to talk to you, stop what you are doing, look and listen.
  • Remember your manners to each other and other people. Treat other people how you like to be treated!
  • Do not interrupt if Mum or Dad are busy talking or helping another person, wait your turn!
  • Remember there are two grown ups in this house that you can ask.
  • If Mum or Dad are in the bathroom, leave them alone! And wait, unless it is a REAL emergency.
  • Please keep your bedroom tidy.
  • When you have finished in the bathroom, flush the toilet, remember to leave it how you want to find it!
  • If you have friends around, please ask if it’s ok before taking them upstairs.
  • If Mum or Dad says tidy up, do it straight away without arguing.
  • Go to bed nicely when you are told without arguments.
  • Lastly no really does mean no, don’t argue!

Remember break the rules and you will lose all privileges

Keep to the rules and we will all have a lovely summer together

What do you think? Is it a bit too “Boot Camp” or do you think I am right to lay down the law a little?

Oh and Noel, If you are reading this, you are one lucky man to have a beautiful wife like Dinah, now get off the computer and go spoil her! She needs roses, all diy done and a romantic night out(posh hotel maybe?) :)

Hell no! It's your house, your rules! Kids need structure, otherwise we (and yes, Emmy, I know I'm 19, but I'm a shoe size person as you well know) end up feral and all wild-like.

If you really want to go for the boot camp feel hang a riding crop from the notice board. It's what my boss threatens us with (although what's more worrying is that she can actually get one ;) ).

I take it then, that if, on one of my rare days off (lots of work at the moment :( especially as it's running up to the end of my contract. Job hunting's no fun, as I'm sure Dad Wolf (lol) knows!), and I were to be walking the dog around Lawn Woods (deciding to tire the little bundle of pure energy out) that I should see six kids and a very frazzled-looking mummy I should pop over and say hi! :P

I might add that my security word has very rude connotations this time round! Naughty web team!

I think you should add:
Rule 15 (if I've counted right)
Mum is always right.
Rule 16 If Mum is wrong rule 15 applies.

Well I know you're not one of the many scrounger mums you see about these days :)

My youngest brother and my mum were planning to visit Weston this week - looks like there won't be a pier there for them to visit :(
