So far so good!

Well we are now well over a week into the holidays and things are kind of on an even keel! Don’t get me wrong, they have had their moments, but overall I think I am coping quite well (watch my blogs becoming less and less rational as the weeks roll on!)

We are now receiving some child tax money, so the financial worries have eased up. But saying that, we have found that sometimes the things that they enjoy doing the most are actually free or at least relatively cheap. During the next week we hope to take them all blackberry picking. This is something we do every summer holiday and the neighbours kids come too. Having so many of us go is a huge advantage as we seem to collect enough to last all winter. We freeze them and then use them to make apple and blackberry crumbles mmmm!

I visited Buyology on Sunday and picked up a lot some arts and crafts bits for the kids. They have an excellent selection of things to keep your little treasures amused. I bought Jordan and Abbiegail a sewing set each, designed especially for young children. Abbie has been sewing a purple elephant and Jordan a rather spectacular red parrot. Their sewing skills have surprised me for children so young (6 and 8) Jordan actually sews neater than me!

I bought the older kids an oil painting set. I have told them that if they do them carefully and try really hard, I will frame them (you can buy frames in Poundland) and then they will be able to give them to their Grandparents as a gift. They are quite excited about that idea.

So this week it’s blackberries and arts and crafts, oh and I have to make a start on buying six lots of school uniform Arrrggghh!

Beckie,
I am glad to hear that you and yours are managing to keep it on a even keel despite all the hassle.

What are we to do with the kids if this darn rain does not stop? We have done scrap art in the play room, biscuit making in the kitchen, family movies in the lounge and have managed a trip to steam but now we are running out of ideas.
My youngest (Mouse to his friends) is the only one enjoying the rain but when you are 3 and have a new pair of wellie boots you want nothing more than to go to the park after a rain storm and jump in EVERY puddle.
The older 3 kids are bemoaning the fact that it has rained every day since we got back from Spain. I do keep telling them to think themselves lucky as my childhood holiday were at Clacton (usually in the rain). This as with any information about my childhood was just dismissed as 'in the olden days' and treated with the same distain as stories of children working in the cotton factories, down the mines or up the chimney.
The children do not distinguish between 30 and 300 years to them it is all just history.
Anyway enough of my moaning I hope all is well your end.
Regards
