Nine

Recently my nine year old daughter has seemed in even more of a rush than usual to grow up and it has been troubling me. I know that things are different now compared to when I was growing up, but I still think she is in too much of a rush.

Requesting that I buy her padded bras, asking to get her belly button pierced and coming home from her friend’s house with mascara on have all really concerned me. She has always been a very bright girl and advanced mentally for her age, this means that she can often appear older than her years. Today however was a different story. She was so nine today and it was lovely (if not slightly embarrassing at times.)

I had taken her and my son into town to do some Christmas shopping. We were in a very busy store and she noticed some men’s boxer shorts.

“Look Mummy for Daddy! Please can we buy them?”

At this point my son spluttered and laughed. They had “Babe Magnet” wrote on them. I pointed this out to her and she said

“Oh, what does that mean?”

She was so nine today and it was lovely (if not slightly embarrassing at times.)

Yes she really was nine and it was lovely. So anyway, we moved on to another shop. She then proceeded to pick up this furry looking reindeer and was snuggling it up to her cheek.

“Oh look Mummy! It’s so cute and soft can we get Daddy a teddy?”

Big brother starts to snigger again.

“Amy love, please put that back, it’s not actually a teddy”

Callum then proceeded to quite delicately explain to his sister, that it was in actual fact an item of fun men’s underwear! She sure put it back quickly then! I thought that was the end of it until Callum asked very politely, but also very loudly, in the middle of the crowded shop,

“Excuse me Mummy, could a man use that as a condom?”

Arrrggghhh! KIDS!

OMG how embarrassing, good news that young Callum knows all about condoms though.
My daughters often try to embarrise me but they are 13 and 12 and are doing it on purpose.

Hey John, kids are so mean aren't they?! What are your lot after for Christmas?

The thing with Cal is I don't know when he is doing it deliberately or not, as he does sometimes struggles with appropriate and non appropriate social cues, due to the pdd (suspect the little toad plays on it though at times lol.)

He was fuming to find out they had a cafe in the new library in town. He just doesn't get it. Cafe for coffee, libraries for books :S

Hi Beccs,
What do mine WANT for Christmas?
The entire contents of the Argos catalogue.
What will they get?
You would have to ask the wife as I just pay for it.
Only (half) joking.
