We just had a couple of Jehovah Witnesses knock the door and leave us some booklets to read. When they had left,a curious Abbie asked

"Who were they Mummy?"

To which I replied,

"They were Jehovah Witnesses Abbie"

She then said

"Oh do they go around knocking on lots of houses to leave books?"

I replied "Yes, that's right Abbie they do"

I left it at that, as I could see the whole discussion becoming complicated! She then asked

"Can I be one?"

Yes it certainly sounds very idyllic doesn't it?

When my eldest son was 2 and my daughter was a baby, I had very bad postnatal depression and was very lonely. A couple of Jehovah witnesses used to come round to the house and chat to me. We got quite friendly and they used to come in for a cuppa. I learnt a lot about the religion, they were lovely and I did at one point actually consider becoming a Jehovah Witness. But when I discovered that if my child was to need a blood transfusion and would die without one and I would not be able to allow them to have one as a Jehovah Witness, I decided against it. Don't get me wrong, I respect others for their decision to belong to any religion, it just wasn't right for me due to this.

Many years ago I would respray cars in the garage after my first job and a few of the Jehovas would come "share their word" with me as I worked. Nice enough chaps. They just did not understand I do not believe in the new "Business Religions" A belief in a higher power is fine, I just do not think they need million quid buildings, and a Pay your way to Heaven mentality.
