The past week has flown by in a non stop flurry of action. The highlight of my week had to be the three sports days which I went to watch. My lot did me proud! I love the excitement of watching them, the sheer look of effort and determination on their faces, the way they quite literally bounce up and down with excitement between races. I also like the fact that they slept so much better due to all that activity and excitement!
Jordan did particularly well on sports day and has been invited to represent his school at a sports event which is being held at Greendown School this week, against lots of other Swindon primary schools.
One thing that surprised me this week was receiving my first text message from the children’s school. It was a message to remind me that there was no school on Friday, as it was a teacher training day. What a fab idea to send text reminders to parents, so much easier than the endless flurry of letters sent home (some of which never seem to get to me!) Of course it’s also much more environmentally friendly which always scores brownie points.
Whilst I am enjoying the heat, I do hope that it cools down just a little for the children. Our country just isn’t equipped for extreme heat and the classrooms are so hot. My son’s teacher had the right idea this afternoon, she decided it was much too hot for the classroom and took her class outside under a large shady tree.
Finally I was saddened to hear the news of Michael Jackson’s death this weekend however I really do not think it is appropriate that he should be turned into a hero and worshipped. I admired the man for his musical talent, there is no doubt that he made a major mark on the musical industry in the same way as John Lennon and Elvis, however his personal life was a different story. He was found not guilty of child abuse but the fact remains, he allowed two boys, aged 11 and 14 to sleep alongside him in his bed. That should never have happened. Those children were let down by a world which should have protected them.

At last I read someone who agrees with me !! MJ was a musical hero but does not deserve all the fuss after the way his private life was portrayed. It was never proved but then never dis-proved either. Who is to say that money didn't talk.
You did sports day .. I did a day at Nathans new secondary school !! Hreod have brought in a new thing where the new intake do a day with parents then a day on their own.. great for the kids as far as confidence goes but it certainly reminded me why I didn't like school the first time round !!

A day at secondary school arrrggghhh! It must of been so strange going back to school! What did they make you do? I think it's a really good idea to help the kids with the transition. It's such a big step isn't it? Is Nathan looking forward to it? I went to Hreod, bet it's changed since then!
