Deck the halls with boughs of holly Fa la la la la, la la la la.
'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Deck The Halls is a traditional Welsh Christmas carol which dates back to the 16th century. The first published lyrics were written by the poet John Ceiriog Hughes and it was originally played on the harp until the 18th century when Mozart began using it in a piano and violin concerto.
Well amidst the chaos that is my life, I have somehow managed to find a quiet moment to learn something new today. Is it useful or relevant? Well it might help during a Christmas game of Trivial Pursuit I suppose!
So have you written your Christmas cards yet? I haven’t. I shall be honest and admit to the fact that I haven’t even bought half of mine, let alone begun to write them. Have you made your Christmas cake and your Christmas pudding? Oh dear, looks like I have left it too late yet again and shall be buying them from the supermarket. Have you wrapped up all of your presents? I have wrapped a few, but I haven’t finished buying yet.
I watched my first Christmas play at the school yesterday and enjoyed it very much. It was called “What Christmas means to you” and I have to say it made a refreshing change to watch something other than a traditional nativity. The children were fantastic; they remembered all of their lines and sang really beautifully. It was lovely to see my son so happy and confident on the stage, he looked quite at home up there!
My daughter is singing with the school choir in the Brunel Shopping Centre on Friday morning and I am looking forward to going along to see her. Then next week I am off to see my youngest son perform in his Christmas concert at Christchurch. He is supposed to be a sheep. He doesn’t want to be a sheep! He didn’t want to be a sheep last year either, but somehow his teacher managed to convince him to take part. I think that he makes a really cute sheep, he however begs to differ.
This time of the year is always so hectic and with my youngest two taking it in turns to be poorly for the last month, I am in addition sleep deprived. Going along and seeing them perform in their various school concerts and plays makes it all worthwhile though, I love it!
