David Latham and Adrian Embling, experts in the field of mental health in the workplace, bring you Wellbeing At Work, designed to debate the issues surrounding a happy, healthy worklife.
Adrian is a senior employment adviser for Richmond Fellowship’s Work Life service. He has 30 years' experience and focuses on wellbeing and handling stress in the workplace, helping tackle issues of workload pressures, work environment, working relationships and stigma.
“We’re living in the 21st century, yet the stigma of mental ill-health casts a long, dark shadow – fear, misunderstanding and poor public recognition stifle rational debate and add to the trauma of those experiencing genuine stress, anxiety and depression,” he said.
David is project leader of the Swindon Mindful Employer Network which is managed locally at the Richmond Fellowship Wiltshire in Old Town. He was born and educated in the town and spent all of his working life in the area. He is a past Chair of Hospital Radio Swindon, Trustee of the Charities Information Bureau and BBC Children In Need coordinator in Wiltshire between 2000 - 2004. He is a council member for the Swindon Chamber of Commerce (operated by Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group) and a judge for the Swindon Borough Council Excellence awards.
As project leader, David is delighted by the interest displayed by local businesses for the Swindon Mindful Employer Network. Regular meetings on wellbeing and mental health at work are popular with employers big and small and David has been instrumental is planning annual conferences in Swindon.
"Wellbeing and mental health is becoming a priority to employers. Too many working days are lost due to mental illness which hits productivity and profitability. Mindful Employer brings businesses together to share best practice and experience - and importantly it's free of charge!"
Uncertainty is the norm in the workplace and mental health training is increasingly important.
