I WAS so concerned to hear of the proposed 40 per cent cut to Swindon Children’s Centres (£770,000) with the result that more than half of them are to close.
Anyone who has been associated with Children’s Centres knows what a valuable resource they are and what an important role they play in supporting families with young children.
In the same edition of the Advertiser you report that a similar sum of money to that being cut from Children’s Centres is being allocated to promoting cycling (£750,000).
Whilst I appreciate the budgets for these services come out of different pots, what an indictment this is of the priorities of the Government and our Conservative Council with cycling (very much a minority activity) being seen as more important than supporting families and their children!
