Big Brother creates its own controversy

9:49am Wednesday 24th January 2007

JUSTICE has been served. As usual Big Brother viewers vote out the big character'! - Jade Goody (82 per cent) - in order to calm international race relations (SA, January 20).

Doubly-disgraced Danielle has lost her lucrative modelling contract. Jade's perfume, which is manufactured in India, has been withdrawn and it has been revealed that her svelte figure is the result of hi-tech liposuction, not the fitness regime portrayed by her DVD. Her continued shouts of "liar" and "fake" can now be seen in another context.

Of course the whole conflict was a set-up. The first charade revolved around being servants to the Goodys and the tone was set for a controversial programme, Shilpa was the scapegoat and Jade et al will be publicly scapegoated - horrible all around. Big Brother milked the class, bullying and racial elements for all they were worth. Exploitative producers will have many questions to answer or avoid.

The unholy trinity of Davina McCall, Dermot O'Leary and Russell Brand will join ranks to protect Jade Goody. And interestingly enough, all have John Noel as their agent.
