You report that the mobile phone mast in Akers Way has been moved 40 metres away from its original position (SA, February 1).
I don't think the residents of Manor Crescent should get the champagne out just yet, though. If your article is correct, it will still be only 85 metres from people in Manor Crescent.
The 10-year Naila study by doctors in Germany found a threefold increase in the risk of malignant tumours in people living within 400 metres of a mast. Another (Israeli) study discovered a fourfold increase in cancer within 350 metres, and a tenfold increase specifically among women, compared to people living away from the mast.
We have good reason to fear the spread of these masts, particularly with regard to our children who are particularly vulnerable to radiation. Their brains are still developing and undoubtedly there will be trouble ahead unless mast proliferation is better controlled.
The dangers are not confined only to cancer. Other problems have been found, including headaches, dizziness, depression, fatigue and poor concentration - just what our children need as they try to cope with the demands of our education system.
If I lived in Manor Crescent, I would demand that the mast be moved at least a further 600 or 700 metres away. Then the champagne corks could really pop.
