On the verge of fury

MANY years ago, when streets like Wheeler Avenue were first built, the developers had the forethought to include trees in the roadside, along with grass verges, which all went to enhance the area and make it a better place to live.

If you come to the road now it is a very different story, there are company buses parked on the verges, endless numbers of private cars on the grass verges, and at least two houses with no drop kerbs, just driving over the verges and into the gardens, each day they are taking the garden with them down the road.

Two of our ward councillors actually live in the street, but no doubt, with the coining of the new parish wards, they will be surplus to requirements and so have lost the need to worry about such things.

The third councillor lives in Highworth, so I doubt if she even is aware of the problem.

The council has had two commercial vehicles moved from the verges, but this is now an endless problem.

A charitable answer

WITH the amount of empty shops in town centre why is there no outlet for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance?

I know there is one in Westbury but have not seen any elsewhere. I am sure there will be lots of donations to them and plenty of customers buying from them to support an excellent service in Wiltshire.

A very happy ending

HOW delighted I was to read of little Jack Russell Peanut’s reunion with his owner following their car accident.

What must have been a terrifying ordeal in itself must have been made even worse for poor Charlotte Rotton when she realised her little pup was missing.

It’s nice to hear of a happy ending for once — it made my day when I read about it yesterday.

I wish Charlotte and Peanut a long and happy — and safe — future together.

Flush out vandalism

THE proposed closure of the bus station toilets for men due to vandalism will surely make Swindon the only large town without such a facility.

Vandalism is far too often used as a reason for closing down such facilities, but efforts to tackle the problem and keep the building in good repair would be a better and proper way forward.

Just imagine the dismay on arriving at the bus station needing to quickly spend a penny only to find that the nearest toilets are nearly half a mile away.

You couldn’t make it up.
