We must do more

I READ with great concern a new report by Breast Cancer Now, “Good Enough? Breast Cancer in the UK”, which highlights how much more needs to be done to save the lives of people with breast cancer.

Although more women are surviving breast cancer than ever before, it is still the most common cancer in the UK with over 50,000 women diagnosed with the disease each year. And still every year around 11,500 women die of breast cancer in the UK.

The report uncovered a number of issues that need to be addressed in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. These include the ability to access effective medicines to prevent and treat breast cancer, concerns about having enough specialist cancer doctors and nurses, and unprecedented financial and operational pressures within the NHS.

It is critical that progress is made across these areas, particularly as the number of those living with and beyond breast cancer is expected to rise.

That’s why I have emailed my local MP asking them to take action to ensure that Breast Cancer Now can achieve its vision that by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live.

I would encourage others to join me and email their MP by visiting: www.breastcancernow.org/goodenough2017

Speedway fiasco

SO on and on we go. The farce continues regarding the play-offs.

Swindon Robins finish top of the league. So, when Man City, United or someone else wins soccer’s Premier League, will they then have to play off to actually become champions? Thought not.

I have followed the Robins since 1949 and have become disillusioned by the current state of affairs. Fairly high entry prices are one thing – understood; but paying £1.50 to park my car on a patch of dirt is no longer appealing.

Good luck to Alun Rossiter and the team.

Women only

Here we go again, Steve Jack’s letter about abortion is typical of a certain part of the male population.

Now don’t get me wrong, although I am not religious, I have nothing against religion. I am not one of those secularists who argue against religion. However it has my long held view that in all religions, especially the Abrahamic religions, there are groups of men who delight in sitting around making rules about how women dress, behave or what they do with their own bodies.

It is not a particularly feminist or liberal view that men should not have control over women and it is noticeable that it is always men that write about abortion in the Adver, so may I respectfully ask Steve Jack and his male cohorts to stay out of women’s matters?
