An informed choice

I AM absolutely disgusted and furious with Vince Cable (he doesn’t deserve to be called Sir) with his latest ridiculous outburst.

He says “too many older people voted for Brexit because they were driven by nostalgia for a world where faces were white”. Utter disgrace. That is nothing but pure reverse racism, but sadly there aren’t any laws against that.

People voted for Brexit because they are sick of unelected faceless nobodies dictating every aspect of our lives. They are sick of little grey men and little grey women in little grey offices deciding our national rules and trying to control and change our identity.

People are sick of our borders being opened allowing people from all over the world to flood here in their thousands every week. That isn’t racist, just common sense. We are a tiny island. Billions of people worldwide live in relative poverty. We cannot fit them all in no matter how the liberals wring their hands. However the EU seems keen to keep on asking us to take refugees in despite them travelling through many other EU countries to get here.

People are sick of paying billions into a system that sees recently joining countries lavished with money to bring them up to European standards whilst we in the UK drive on some of the most neglected and damaged roads in the developed world. We have bankrolled other countries to a ridiculous level and yet here we seem to be heading back to the 70s in terms of public spending and public services.

Austerity inevitable

May I remind Martin Webb (Mar 13) that austerity is policy that nobody wanted.

But when a country finds itself deep in debt there is no alternative and the National Debt is now approaching two trillion pounds.

There was an economic crash in 2008 caused by the Labour Party wildly overspending on the public services.

In fact it was the Secretary to the Treasury Liam Byrne Labour MP that left a note for his successor saying that there was no money left.

It is manufacturing industry that creates wealth. This is a concept that left wingers just cannot grasp.

Left wingers believe it is possible to borrow your way out of debt.

Blot on our landscape

I read with interest C Inskip’s letter regarding the amount of litter, etc strewn around our town and wonder why nobody (ie the council/local parish) seems unable or unwilling to tackle the problem, which is a blot on our own landscape.

I wonder what impression visitors to Swindon get of seeing so much litter lying around, some of which has obviously been around for some considerable time.
