Letter from Robert Feal-Martinez

I BELIEVE Swindon voters and the wider community need to be made aware of the German Constitutional Court's decision on the Lisbon Treaty. They had to decide whether it was compatible with German law.

In a rather bizarre judgement they concluded it was, however instructed that ratification was delayed until new German laws were introduced to give the German Parliament a greater say in aspects of the Treaty. What makes this decision bizarre is that 77 per cent of the German people have demanded a vote on the Treaty and this delay in ratification could make the German elections in September a ‘vote’ on the whole future of Europe.

It seems the German Constitutional Court whether by design or mistake has really muddied the waters for German politicians. What remains the truth however is that despite claims to the contrary there are still four countries who have not ratified the Treaty, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Ireland. So what we can see in Britain is the cowardly approach of the three main parties in relying on others to do their dirty work for them. Most notably David Cameron’s non committal approach.
