Letter from Les Fox

HOW it gladdened my old heart to read Ken Gibbs’s letter (SA, July 3) regarding ‘Life in Cuba’.

He states everything is government controlled better that, than EU controlled as it is here! As regard food rationing, great, less wastage and obeseness.

No music while you work but an intelligent reading on history, great again, the so-called music of today doesn’t seem to be much good for our society. He also states very little electrical appliances. We in Britain would be better off with less and so would the environment.

Great - wages the same for all; not correct doctors, teachers do receive higher salaries, but not exorbitant. Fifty year old American automobiles, great those are the ones I know something about, having worked on and driven, dream machines not like here, nearly all the cars look the same, but for the different colours, and not many British ones either!

The Cuban workers have music in their hearts and souls - how many British workers do you hear singing or whistling for that matter?

Yes Ken, as soon as I win the lottery or receive my inheritance, I and my wife Beryl will on away to Cuba. Rum and Coca-Cola, Havana cigars and dusky maidens, purely for medicinal purposes, you understand.
