Letter from Peter Mitchell

I AM sure there are many other Swindon Town supporters who like me would take issue with Danny Wilson's post-match comments after the Charlton game.

Having given away yet another late goal, Danny said something to the effect that "we conceded the goal because we shouldn't have been so offensive...."

In my opinion they conceded the goal because the team was not offensive enough. I have watched them for many years and even the most successful Swindon team was never one able to withstand a lot of pressure on its defence - and the current one - albeit a good one - is not one to buck that trend!

If our strategy was to continue to go forward and put pressure on teams when we were a goal up, it would reduce the other team's attacking options, and might even gain us another goal - we always sit back, play far too deep and let the other team come at us - several times this season you knew it would only be a matter of time before the opposition would get their equaliser. Swindon did the same on Saturday and only occasionally broke forward after their goal - and Danny is attributing one of these isolated breaks to be the cause of the goal.

I have analysed the goals Swindon have conceded in the last five minutes of league matches this season, and it makes interesting reading. If they had not conceded these ten goals they would have had 12 additional points - this would have out them in third place, only two points behind leaders Norwich City, but with three games in hand - and of course Swindon's goal difference would have improved considerably!

Anyway on a positive note, the team is playing some very impressive and attractive football at the moment, so keep up the good work - but tighten up that defence !
