AS regular readers will know I write regularly on subjects on which I feel very strongly about and consider should be kept in the public eye.
Sometimes however as in the case of UKIP when I said that they had no real policies I was wrong. I have already written admitting this and I am obliged to Robert Feal Martinez (SA, March 2, 2010) when he says that it shows character to admit one is wrong.
There is however one person who writes regularly to this paper who seems unable to do this. I refer to Mr M J Warner.
On August 11, 2009 I pointed out that the loss of a Nimrod aircraft together with the crew was as a result of government penny pinching and MoD incompetence. This was backed up by a similar letter from Mr Terry Reynolds (SA, August 13, 2009).
In his letter (SA, August 20, 2009) Mr Warner ridiculed us and said that the entire episode was an unfortunate accident of war. A subsequent official inquiry proved without doubt that we were in fact correct and that the MoD and the Labour government were in fact to blame.
If future correspondence from M J Warner is to bear any credence he should offer a written apology or give readers his reasons for not doing so. Terry Reynolds and myself surely deserve this after our integrity was so-called into question. We will then see if Mr Warner can in fact show the kind of character referred to by Mr Feal Martinez or is he like Gordon Brown unable to use the ‘sorry’ word.
