Letter from Terry Reynolds

I THINK THIS IS AIMED AT OUR LOCAL LABOUR LEADER??? JANIE IN response to the Labour Manifesto, can I ask the following to the party leader?

If you are going to look after our children's education, why did the current Labour Government take control of the education department from your council, as it was run so badly, and can he comment on current reports which show that class sizes are now on average 26.8 pupils per class, when the government said they were going to cut sizes down in 1997.

If you are going to build more council houses, why, in late 1994, when given £10 million from the then Conservative government, which was receipts from council house sales, did you not build houses then, instead of refurbishing the Brunel Centre, which of course you then sold off, and what happened to the £90 million you received from the sale?

If you are going to protect our green spaces, why did you, when last in power, sell nearly every sports field in the town or if not sell, give permission for the building of houses etc on them? You should also tell us why it is that you now live on one of those ex-sports fields.

When you have a record of nearly 50 per cent council tax rises in just three years, do you think the people of Swindon have short memories.

In the 18 odd years you were in power the last time, how many community shopping centres did you rebuild or reshape into better areas for the people?

How many allotment grounds did you either give away or sell off in the last three years of your council? I think the number is about four or five.

You and your colleagues should put away your tinted glasses and look at the real life.
