Letter from Richard Newman, Guy & Kathryn

11:09am Friday 19th March 2010

WITH all the negative publicity surrounding MPs’ expenses, striking air crews and badly behaved footballers, it gives me great pleasure to be able to sing the praises of an incredibly hard working, caring and committed team of people who have looked after my wife Diane over the past six weeks on Dove Ward at the Great Western Hospital.

As a visitor I have seen the consultants, doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff all working incredibly hard, round the clock, seven days a week, sometimes on 12 hour shifts. It’s certainly no holiday attending to the needs of very sick patients and they manage to do this with dedication and determination, while all the time being asked to do more and more.

So, from me and from Diane, a really big thank you to all at GWH (and to Carillion for keeping the hospital clean and tidy) not only for doing your job really well, but for being friendly, caring and understanding and for going over and above the call of duty on a daily basis.

In contrast to some of the big wage earners we read about in the newspapers, these hospital staff work very hard indeed and really make a difference to the lives of patients and their relatives.
