COUNCILLOR Graham Cherry (March 16) states that Labour has held sway in his ward for 50 years and achieved very little. Perhaps he could tell us what he has achieved since he became a councillor?

I have lived in the Parks for 45 years and have appreciated the work done by our Labour councillors, especially our longest-serving councillor Steve Allsopp. He and Fay Howard not only hold regular surgeries and take up individual problems (does Graham Cherry do this?) but have lent their full support to the voluntary and community groups in this area, whereas his Conservative colleagues seem bent on destroying voluntary and community effort all over Swindon.

I am neither a New Labour nor a Conservative supporter, so the above comments are not party political, but I can’t help noticing that whenever the small group of Labour councillors put forward any alternative plans or suggestions they are said to be “scoring political points”, whereas the triumphalist Conservative administration is always right!
