STEVE Halden is quite correct when he says that Non Doms are providing much of the finance to all of the three main political parties (SA, March 11). Non Doms are of course nothing new as companies and individual people have long been using places like The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands as tax havens.

No taxation without representation was the call at the start of the American War of Independence and now it should be no representation without taxation. People who have their main place of residence in the United Kingdom should of course be the ones who finance our political parties.

On the other hand if Lord Ashcroft had given his millions to the Labour Party instead of to the Tories I doubt that we would have had a peep out of Gordon Brown. This to me is the politics of envy which we could do very well without.

Steve Halden should ask himself why we have Non Doms. Britain under this Labour Government has become one of the heaviest taxed countries in the world and who can blame anyone for trying to lessen the burden.

I would do all that I could to reduce my admittedly small tax liability and I am sure that if he were honest with himself Steve Halden would do the same thing.
