Letter from Dr David Hill

UNFORTUNATELY our political classes never learn. Indeed I have not heard any plausible long-term economic strategies (five years political office strategies are no good now in a globalised world) that will get this country out of the worst mess that I have seen in my 62 years.

In this respect we need to build a whole new economic base in Britain, not based upon service industries that everyone is offering these days and where other nations can offer cheaper than Britain, but high-tech industrial bases.

This is the only strategy long-term that will physically work now in the new ‘knowledge world’. Therefore not until I hear of politicians talking of new directions other that the same old claptrap that we have, will Britain get back to even 2005 living standards once the dust settles after the election and all the horrible covered-up nu-Labour skeletons come out of the closet. This fiscal nightmare that we all now endure will be with us for a very long time indeed and we have to start building NEW economic foundations if we are to get out of this unprecedented mess that we are in.

We have the brains according to the Japanese and Germans (they say that we lead the world in inventiveness apportioning over 50 per cent of all major inventions to the fundamental thinking of people of Britain) and the creativity, but the political classes just do not know anything about this (don’t understand it at all) and most importantly how to release it.

Once they realise this (may never happen as there are few scientists and engineers in parliament) we might just have a chance of starting the long climb out of our problems, but not before this ‘big’ penny firmly drops.
