I AM responding with deep concern to the new name that has been selected for the Pipers Arms! I cannot be alone in my reaction to other choice of The Pig on the Hill... which I find degrading to the dignity and respect for Old Town.
I discussed this with a close friend in London who said: “Oh! Don’t worry, it is just another descriptive put down in the national image of Swindon!”
I appeal to Daniel O’Connell to reconsider his choice of name. If you must refer to the historic connection of Swine-Dun; even The Piglet Parlour would sound less offensive. Even endearing and welcoming!
Please Daniel, I beseech you, not the degradation of The Pig on the Hill in a very precious part of Swindon that is struggling to reclaim its heart and soul, with the dignity, splendour and respect for which it was once acclaimed.
So will you consider the wider impact and the sensitivities of your new neighbours in Devizes Road who will be confronted daily with your current choice of name?
With my caring for the image of Old Town.
