Football fans flocking back to the County Ground to cheer on Swindon Town at their first home game of the season tomorrow are being asked to remain vigilant against Covid-19.

Restrictions on gatherings have been lifted, but fans are asked to continue to wear face coverings inside the stadium, and in all crowded places and to wash and sanitise their hands frequently.

Rob Angus, the club’s chief executive, said: “We can’t wait to have fans back at the County Ground and we want everyone to enjoy. We urge all fans to take the proper precautions and to wear masks when in crowded areas and indoors in order to slow the spread. Thank you for your cooperation.”

The town's director of public health Steve Maddern added: “We want fans to enjoy the occasion tomorrow and to support the team as they would normally. Covid-19 is still a threat and we mustn’t get complacent. The virus is continuing to spread within the community, hospital admissions are going up, and we need to do all we can to keep it under control.”
