A SWINDON osteopath played a key part in the England football team’s Euros success.

And Carl Todd was also involved in Chelsea’s cup-winning season and athlete Dina Asher Smith’s injury-hit Olympics bid.

Having returned to the county after a successful games for Team GB, he’s back running clinics in South Marston, Melksham and Corsham.

He said: “Lots of people in Swindon probably don’t even realise what I do. I work in sport, but I don’t make a big song and dance about it. However, it’s good for people in Wiltshire to realise that they can also receive the same degree of treatment service that top class athletes get.”

Carl, who qualified as an osteopath with his wife Mel in 2003, recalled the frustration and heartbreak as Dina Asher Smith suffered a torn hamstring, meaning she missed out on the 100m finals and had to pull out of the 200m.

He said: “It’s amazing. To think where she came from after having been injured, to see her progress over a short period of time.

“Obviously that progression wasn’t as good as what we would have liked. She just needed more time and unfortunately we ran out of that. She’s obviously frustrated about what had happened but unfortunately that’s sport.

“It is amazing to see someone perform at the highest level with some of the fastest people in the world.”

Carl enjoyed his time with Chelsea and England. “Chelsea’s been quite a successful tenure. We’ve been part of a team that has won many trophies. It’s been quite exciting,” he said.

“The England back room set-up is made up of individuals predominantly from the UK. Both of them feel like quite a family environment. They both feel very tight and you do feel as part of a family. My wife jokes that I have multiple families.”

Despite finding himself at the highest levels of sport, Carl said he has maintained a level-headed approach to his work.

“If you start getting carried away with the support when you work at high level sport, then you’re skating on very thin ice. The idea is to stay grounded, keep your feet on the floor and remember it’s just another job. My business has always been my clinics and anything I do in sport is a bonus, which is probably why I’ve lasted so long in sport.”

“We have a good team of people who work with us, and that’s important for my wife and me,” he said. We share the same underlying philosophy throughput our clinics, do the best you can as quickly as you can for patients.

“If you can’t help them, then find another alternative way. That means referring them back to a doctor, consultant, or for some other form of investigation. Some of the nicest comments I hear from patients is that they come here because they want to hear an honest opinion."
