Bus passengers waiting or left out in the cold

So, today (Friday, December 10) having some business in Swindon centre, decided to go in by bus (as we are cajoled to do).

Great fun. Buses late or cancelled. No warning of course or any semblance of LED signage in bus shelter. About three years now being updated.

Gets better. Back at the bus station; more cancellations.

Oh well, I will sit in the waiting room for about 25 minutes. Ah. Closed until Monday 13th.

Welcome to Swindon everyone. Just join the dozens of cold and fed-up uncared for passengers in standing around and waiting. Make sure you don’t need the public toilets though; closed at 4pm.

Oh what joy.

Woeful Govt response to Covid pandemic

Alan Woodham’s letter ( SA, December 10) looks like nothing more than desperation to maintain blind support for a government whose response to the Covid pandemic has been consistently woeful, leading to thousands of unnecessary deaths.

His argument for the defence seems to be that because other completely unconnected things happen then it’s OK that Government spokespeople laugh and joke about how they can keep people in the dark.

Public safety rules they are supposed to promote are flagrantly disregarded by themselves but that’s OK.

They may well laugh when the likes of Mr Woodham are prepared take any insult from them without their devotion taking a dent.

Moreover, Mr Woodham has missed two key points.

The Government is supposed to be promoting and organising, based on scientific advice, a set of public health measures to cut infection rates, rates of transmission and consequent illness and death.

Their hilarity around their “cheese and wine” party throws light on how far we can trust them in that endeavour.

We can’t, especially as some of the Tory MPs are set to vote against any public health measure even in the face of the threats posed by the newest variant.

Secondly, Mr Woodham has missed the revolving door where staff circulate between “journalists” in the mainstream media, right wing lobbyists and Government advisors, and this blocks the Government being held to account.

The same outfit sells the lie that the rich minority who control our society, and suck up wealth produced by working people, have their position through merit.
