Rob Baker and his partner Amy used the government’s Help to Buy scheme to buy their first home at the Taylor Wimpey’s Greenfields at Ridgeway Farm development in Swindon. The couple, along with their cat Luna and guinea pig Fudge, moved into their brand new three-bedroom semi-detached ‘Easedale’ home in December 2016 – with Help to Buy.

People buying new properties can access a Help to Buy Government loan for up to 20% of the price of their chosen property, meaning they require only a 75% loan-to-value mortgage and a 5% deposit.

Rob, 29, says: “Using Help to Buy was a very simple process. I am a first-time buyer so I used the recommended mortgage broker who sorted everything out for us.”

Rob had been living with his parents on a farm in nearby Cricklade, before moving to his beautiful new home, which has been carefully designed to offer flexible living space spread over two storeys.

“This house was perfect for us because the three bedrooms are all a good size and nicely-proportioned,” explains Rob, “and we fell in love with the kitchen/dining room because we like to cook and it’s a great social space.”
