THE road to the perfectly arched brow is paved with pitfalls.

If you don’t accidentally over-pluck, then there is the issue of taming those stray hairs into shape. Not to mention the all-important mirror-effect; try as we might, our brows never look the same on each side.

Before you give up the towel entirely as I almost did, why not seek help from professionals? After all we would never cut our own hair so why would we even dream of touching our delicate eyebrows and more likely than not make a terrible mess of them.

Luckily for me my mother refused to let me pluck my brows without supervision so when I was 16 she dragged me to the beauty salon to have them waxed. She was right, we avoided a major disaster and it made it much easier to tidy up once the arch has been uncovered from under the bushy jumble of hairs.

But as I realised over the years, once is not enough and with all the good intentions in the world you can still ruin your perfect arch. Pluck one too many hairs often enough and they will start to grow in whichever way they please.

So last week, I plucked up the courage to walk into Debenhams for a much-needed consultation with Amy Sloan of Arch Angelz brow bar.

I must admit I had my reservations. The last thing I wanted was for my brows to be over-threaded and end up even thinner and misshapen than they were when I came in.

Ten minutes of expert threading later and my brows appeared much thicker, the arch was more defined and my entire face seemed to have opened up. A sweep of colour palette blended in for texture and I had true power brows.

According to Amy, I was not alone in giving up, resigning myself to my fate. But it is never too late to tame your brows or fix those plucking mishaps.
