Chart topping pop star George Ezra is heading for Swindon this autumn as part of his UK and European tour.

The singer who came to fame with hits Budapest and Did You Hear The Rain will be playing at the Oasis, North Star on the last night of his tour on November 16, the day following his gig at Wembley arena.

George is touring to promote his latest album, Staying At Tamara's, that is due for release on March 23. He already has hit singles Paradise and Pretty Shining People from the album.

Last month George released the first episode of his podcast George Ezra and Friends which is a 45-minute show where he talks to other artists including Ed Sheeran and Rag N Bone Man.

The singer/songwriter grew up in Hereford and trained at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Bristol.

He says that his earliest influences were Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Howlin' Wolf and Lead Belly.

"On the back of Lead Belly's record it said his voice was so big you had to turn your record player down. I liked the idea of singing with a big voice so I tried it and I could,'' said George.

George began his musical career through playing the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury in 2003 and BBC Radio 1 picked up his music, with Budapest reaching the top 10 in many countries around the world. His debut album, Wanted on Voyage went to number one in the UK and George finished in fifth place in the BBC Sound of... 2014.

He soon found himself in demand for support slots including Robert Plant at the Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza, Sam Smith, Lianne La Havas, Bastille and Tom Odell.

His success seemed guaranteed when he was nominated for four Brit Awards, Best album, male solo artist, single and breakthrough artist.

His video for the song Listen To The Man featured Ian McKellan and he was guest on TV's Saturday Night Live and The Late Late Show with James Corden on US television.

He is set to perform at this year's Radio One Big Weekend in Swansea and was a huge hit at the Norwich Big Weekend in 2015.

His latest single Hold My Girl released this week has a video where George is performing karaoke to a woefully empty workingmen's club! Unlikely as his March tour was sold out within 24 hours of tickets going on sale.

Tickets to see George in Swindon are on sale from 9am on Friday, March 16. They are available from 01793 445401 or https://www.ents24.com/swindon-events/oasis-leisure-centre/george-ezra/5277293 - Flicky Harrison
