A SWINDON band is set to take to the stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Hip-hop reggae band The Tribe will give nine performances to crowds when the festival returns for another year on June 21.

They are also billed to perform on three stages at Boomtown Fair, in Winchester, in August and at Victorious Festival, in Portsmouth, two weeks later, both of which are in the top 10 of the UK’s largest festivals.

Ant Henderson, the band’s bassist, acoustic guitarist and singer, said: “Over the past two years we have been working our socks off writing our debut album and promoting our new music for the festivals season, it would seem everything is falling into place for 2017.

“We’re so excited and it is not just about the fact we are playing at the world’s biggest festival but because being there will help us in other areas when booking other shows and festivals.

“It also means that we are able to get a bigger exposure with our audience.”

The Tribe will be performing twice on Glastonbury’s legendary Croissant Neuf Bandstand, which has been present at the festival for 30 years.

They are also performing at the 800-capacity Rum Shack, the Greenpeace Stage, Toad Hall, The Rabbit Hole, Mandala Stage and Lizard Stage.

The Tribe, which has an age range of 21-35, was put together five years ago when Ant wanted to start a jazz/hip hop band in the town.

After finding established rapper AJ online, the musician started to find others who would suit the sound they were going for.

Since then, they have gone from strength to strength, spending the last year recording an album produced by Bullysongz, who is currently a feature of Armin Van Buuren and Galantis’s big hits.

Ant said: “Getting a slot at Glastonbury is such a great opportunity for us to go out and meet people, make new contacts and promote our music.

“We’re just really excited and thankful to the people who have helped us get these gigs and hopefully off the back of it, we will have lots of good experiences and opportunities to go on to.”

The band’s AJ Mayhew said: “I’m mega excited for this year’s festival season. We have been working hard on new material and are ready to hit the stage with our new songs.

“We have some great festivals this year and I always have a great time when I’m on the road with the band.”

The Tribe have just released the video for their new track, Break, from their debut album.

Guitarist AJ Thomas said: “Its always a pleasure to perform. The festivals are great, there’s such a variety of people all enjoying good live music - that’s what its all about.”
