Swindon Recital Series’ November concert next week presents pieces for viola and piano that span two centuries of music.

The programme opens with Schumann’s elegant Fairytale Pictures, and is followed by Brahms’ second viola sonata.

The final piece is by Argentinian composer Piazzola, who revolutionised the tango with elements of jazz and classical music. Le Grand Tango is a passionate piece and will played by Carmen Flores and Paul Turner.

Californian Carmen was appointed principal viola of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia in 2007, and has also appeared with the orchestras of the Canadian Opera Company and English National Opera.

Tickets are £5 and the concert begins at 1.05pm. Tea and cakes are available beforehand in the Wyvern’s Café Bar, for £3.50.
