Zurich Community Trust and leading drug and alcohol treatment charity Addaction have won the Cross Sector Partnership of the Year title at the Charity Times Awards, in London’s West End.

The judges were particularly impressed by the partnership both had formed in setting up Breaking the Cycle which is a programme that turns around the lives of families battling drug and alcohol problems.

The programme was described as a ‘dynamic partnership between Addaction and Zurich Community Trust, that has successfully developed a unique model which works with families to break the cycle of inter-generational drug use and abusive drinking.’ Simon Antrobus, chief executive at Addaction said: “Drug and alcohol addiction doesn't just affect the person who uses; it affects everyone around them, and especially children. In fact, children growing up with addicted parents are far more likely to develop their own problems, later in life. ‘Breaking the Cycle’ helps by dealing with the parent's problems and by creating a caring, structured home environment for the whole family.”

Tim Culling, chairman of Zurich Community Trust, said: “It was a privilege and pleasure to see Addaction and the Zurich Community Trust recognised at these awards, this is the latest step in what has been an inspirational programme.

“The work we have done alongside our partners and friends at Addaction has started to transform the way in which families affected by addiction to drugs or alcohol (or both), are helped to break the cycle. I am proud that Zurich and Addaction are helping to make so many lives better than they would otherwise be.”
