Chicago
Oxford until Saturday
HAVING seen Chicago performed on the stage on numerous occasions (try six), I definitely knew what to expect.
And as always, I was left enthralled by the performance – and more than a little jealous at the figures and moves of the cast.
The whole show is incredibly stylised, yet simple in its delivery.
Taking on the role of Roxie Hart was Ali Bastian (of Hollyoaks and Strictly fame) while Velma was played by Tupele Dorgu (who was Kelly Crabtree in Coronation Street).
Both women were fantastic in their respective roles and it is possibly the best version of Velma I have seen on the stage.
Stefan Booth’s performance of lawyer Billy Flynn was strong, and he combined all aspects of the character well.
And praise also has to go to the band, who are on stage for the entire show and really get into the jazz mood.
I might be biased, having seen this musical so many times, but I cannot recommend you go and see it enough.
