A MAN with a string of drink-related convictions has been banned from the town centre for two years.

On November 7, Michael Redpath, of Albion Street, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place on September 27.

As part of Operation Arcadia, the Neighbourhood Policing Team street drinkers operation, and Operation Diamond, the Night time Economy (NTE) operation, PC Michael Diffin, the NTE Manager, applied for a post-conviction Anti Social Behaviour Order on 61-year-old Redpath.

Magistrates were provided with information on Redpath’s 20 convictions since October 2009 for alcohol-related offences, which include being drunk and disorderly, theft of alcohol from shops, public order offences and common assault - all committed whilst under the influence of alcohol.

The order bans Redpath from entering the town centre for two years and prevents him from being in possession of an open can or bottle of alcohol in public within the Borough of Swindon.

PC Diffin said: “I am very pleased with the result.

“Mr Redpath was a menace to members of the public in the town centre when under the influence of alcohol, including women and young children.

“I hope this sends out a clear message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated by the people of Swindon, the courts and Wiltshire Police.”
