A PRE-SCHOOL was transformed into an Indian restaurant as toddlers celebrated Diwali.

Youngsters from Highworth Pre-School enjoyed a feast from the Tamarind Restaurant in Highworth yesterday as part of their work on the festival.

Staff from the restaurant came to visit them at the Ladybird Children’s Centre to serve up the dishes.

Rachel Uzzell, supervisor at the pre-school, said the day had been a success.

“We turned the pre-school into an Indian restaurant. The Tamarind came for an hour in the morning and provided a free batch of food for the children to celebrate Diwali,” she said.

Diwali is one of the most important festivals for Hindus and celebrates the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

The five-day festival honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

The children at Highworth Pre-School were provided with the feast after staff approached the restaurant.
