A TEAM of hairdressers will be proving they are a cut above the rest when they wear their red hats and white beards for the Swindon Santa Run.

The event, at Lydiard Country Park, will see hundreds of people dressed in Santa suits run, jog or walk the 5km course on Sunday, December 2.

It will raise funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, and among those taking part will be staff from Goldsworthy’s Hairdress-ing in the town centre.

Junior stylist Gabbi John said: “It is something fun and it is good to be raising money for charity. There will be about 10 or 15 of us taking part and we are looking forward to it.”

The Swindon Santa Run is being jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Swindon Phoenix and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

All adult entrants will receive a Santa suit when they register and children will receive reindeer antlers.

People can take part with baby buggies or walk their dog as part of the course and there is no time limit.

Caroline Corrigan, head of fundraising at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said: “It will be fun for all the family and spectators are very welcome too.

“Act quickly and register if you would like to support the fundraising in this very happy start to the Christmas season.”

A sleigh with white ponies and Santa will be at the event, and there will also be face painting, hot refreshments and food.

Registration will start at 10.30am, followed by a Santa warm-up shortly before the run starts at 11am.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance needs to raise £700,000 each year to cover the running costs of the helicopter.

To register, visit www.swindonsanta.org.uk, email caroline@wilt shireairambulance.co.uk or call 07919 413013. Adult entry is £15, children aged four to 15 is £5, and three years and under go free.

Anyone who is unable to take part but would like to donate can sponsor the Goldsworthy’s team by visiting the salon.
