OXFORD Road has reopened again this afternoon following major roadworks.
The road has been closed since July 22, with the work expected to last three weeks, but it has been completed in two.
The work involved carriageway structural repairs, the reconstruction of a number of drainage gullies, and some large areas of resurfacing to improve the carriageway surface and profile on the stretch of road just west of the junction with Nythe Road, to the junction with Burden Close.
Coun Keith Williams, cabinet member for Highways, Strategic Transport and Leisure, said: “I am very pleased this work has been finished so quickly.
"Although we never like closing major roads, the fact that it was closed completely during the day for the works has meant that our contractors have been able to work more efficiently.
“I would also like to thank local residents and businesses for their understanding and co-operation while the work was going on.”
During the works, traffic was diverted between the Greenbridge and White Hart roundabouts via Dorcan Way, Covingham Drive and Merlin Way.
